Fifteen years ago, I was referred to a Personal Coach after I left my
high paying, high stress job. I needed to do a complete re-assessment
of my life and career. I met with the coach, hired her, and the rest is
history. One of the things she pointed out to me was that even though
I was highly skilled in sales and marketing, I had no idea what my purpose
was. Over the next 3 months she helped me to see that I had a strong passion
for helping people, however, the first person I needed to help was . .
. me! We worked on uncovering those things that were meaningful to me,
figuring out how to utilize them in my work, finding my purpose, and last
but not least, creating more balance in my life. Six months later, I hung
my shingle as a Career & Life Coach. It all started with one
great referral.
So, how do you develop a mind set for referrals? Well, think about it.
We all need people, and when you become really good at listening, you
hear what they need sometimes even before they know it themselves. When
we give to people from a sincere desire to help, we get so much back in
return. Keep your mind open and start to become more aware of how you
can help people and how they can help you. Become a gracious receiver
and say, “Thank You!”
a lot!
